SPN Ogilvy took part in organizing the Russian leg of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour initiated by FIFA and Coca-Cola.
Announcing the 2010 FIFA World Cup to be held in South Africa from 11 June to 11 July 2010 the most prestigious soccer trophy is making a round-the-world tour in the course of which it will visit 86 countries. The World Cup Trophy Tour started on 21 September 2009 in Zurich, Switzerland.
The Russian leg of the tour started on 19 March in St Petersburg, where SPN Ogilvy held a press conference with participation of the President of the Russian Soccer Union Sergey Fursenko, Chief Coach of the Russian national soccer team Alexander Borodyuk and Alexander Anyukov, a fullback of Zenit, the St Petersburg football club, and a player of the Russian national team.
SPN Ogilvy also organized a press tour for key federal media representatives to let them attend the events within the trophy tour in St Petersburg.
To celebrate the appearance of the legendary trophy in Russia’s ‘northern capital’, a youth soccer tournament, also organized by Coca-Cola, was opened on 19 March of the city’s major Petrovsky stadium. Following that, on 20 March a citywide sport event was held in the Peter and Paul Fortress (one of the most famous sights of the city located on the embankment of the Neva river), where all visitors could see the trophy with their own eyes and take pictures with it.
“In the beginning of the year 2009 we hosted the UEFA Cup and Super Cup won by Zenit in 2008 right at the SPN Ogilvy office”, says Andrey Barannikov, CEO of SPN Ogilvy. “Meant as a surprise for our employees and clients, this little internal event became a prophecy for us. Exactly a year after we had the honor to provide the communication support of the worldwide tour of the key soccer trophy, which is one of the biggest and most fascinating campaigns to promote the Coca-Cola brand. I hope that the halo of success radiated by this trophy will bring good luck to us and everyone who has seen it.”
